The 5 Star standard for residential homes ensures that new homes in Victoria are built to incorporate certain environmental features.

Compliance with the 5 Star standard requires a 5 Star energy rating for the building fabric plus water savings measures, and the installation of either a rain water tank or a solar hot water system.

The rainwater tank must be connected for toilet flushing and must have a minimum capacity of 2000 litres.
